Mojokerto, Al-Amin – The Al-Amin Islamic Boarding School in Mojokerto continues to improve the competency of its teaching staff through the English Micro-Teaching Program. The program, attended by teachers from junior high school (MTs) and senior high school (MA), took place at the FEE Center in Kampung Inggris, Pare, Kediri, on Monday (July 27, 2026).
The Micro-Teaching Program, or MTC, provides a platform for teachers to practice delivering learning materials in English. The program covers not only general subjects and science, but also Islamic and linguistic topics such as Nahwu, Fiqh, and Arabic.
During the program, the teachers simulate teaching with participants from other schools. They deliver the material as if it were a classroom activity, from opening the lesson, explaining the material, building interactions with students, and managing the classroom atmosphere.
The activity was designed to improve teachers' ability to use English communicatively. In addition to language skills, participants were also trained to improve their self-confidence, public speaking skills, classroom management, and systematic delivery skills.
For Ustadz Muhammad Nur Fahmi, one of the asatidz at the Al-Amin Islamic Boarding School in Mojokerto, the activity was a new experience because the teaching simulation was conducted in front of an audience from another school. The challenge became even more pronounced when he had to deliver material from the yellow book, which uses Arabic grammatical terms, in English.
"I think this was a new experience because we were micro-teaching in front of an audience from another school. At first, I felt anxious about having to deliver material from the yellow book, especially Ghoyah at-Taqrib, which uses Arabic grammatical terms, but delivered in English. We also served as role models for them. However, over time, I began to enjoy the process more," he said.
He said the experience not only improved his English skills but also provided practice in building confidence and classroom management. Participants are required to perform in public while maintaining interaction with the audience throughout the learning process.
"From this activity, I feel my classroom management skills and self-confidence have also been honed. We learned to perform in public, or public speaking, while also managing class dynamics professionally," he said.
Another challenge for the asatidz is maintaining an interactive delivery of material in English. Teachers must be able to maintain the flow of the lesson so that the material is understandable to the audience without making the classroom atmosphere tense.
In addition to teaching practice, the asatidz also received evaluations and feedback from professional tutors from the FEE Center. These evaluations helped participants identify weaknesses in material delivery, language use, classroom management, and communication techniques during the lesson.
The activity also included a comparative study group from a high school in Depok. The presence of participants from other schools provided the asatidz with the opportunity to gain experience teaching with different audiences.
For the Al-Amin Islamic Boarding School in Mojokerto, developing teacher competency is a crucial part of improving the quality of education. The ability to use English to deliver various materials is expected to expand learning methods and prepare teachers for the ever-evolving needs of education.
The experience of participating in micro-teaching also encourages the asatidz to become more adaptive and innovative educators. Ustadzah Nabilah Salsabil believes these skills are crucial for the asatidz to keep up with educational developments and be competitive in the global era.
"We hope that activities like this can increase our capacity as adaptive, innovative educators, ready to compete in the global era. This is especially true in developing the ability to connect the learning of yellow books with English," she said.
Through this program, the Al-Amin Islamic Boarding School in Mojokerto hopes that the asatidz's competency will continue to develop and impact the students' learning process. The use of English is not only expected to provide additional skills for the teachers, but also a means to broaden their horizons and provide more varied learning without abandoning the Islamic values that underlie the Islamic boarding school's education.
